Braided Lines Spiderwire

Braided Lines

Fishing equipment is put under a lot of strain, especially when sea fishing. Starting with the fishing rod, through the reel to the fishing line, enormous forces are at work. The fishing line in particular is the silken link between man and beast and must be hard-wearing. Braided lines in particular are ideally suited for this use.

The braided line

Braided lines are used when you leave the field of application of monofilament lines. Braided lines, also known as polyfile fishing lines, are a braided plait made from several individual fibers. The material consists of very fine nylon, such as Dyneema, Spectra or Kevlar, and is characterized by a very high load-bearing capacity. The more fibers the braided fishing line has, the smoother the line surface appears. The range of braided lines here extends from 4 to 12 single fibers, which are braided together to form a single fiber bundle.

The braided line in comparison

Compared to monofilament line, polyfile fishing line offers better breaking strain and strength, with a smaller diameter compared to monofilament line. Due to the lower stretch of the polyfilament line, you have better catch contact and feel the bites much more directly, especially from the boat. Bites at long distances will no longer slip through your fingers. Further advantages are the better durability of the line in salt water, as well as better protection against UV radiation.

A disadvantage, however, is the higher temperature sensitivity at low temperatures compared to a monofilament counterpart. Polyfilament lines freeze more quickly and can crack, which can have a negative effect on the load-bearing capacity of the line.

Due to the lack of elasticity, polyfile lines are more susceptible to minor damage on sharp and stony surfaces.

The advantages and disadvantages at a glance:

Advantages Disadvantages
+ high load-bearing capacity and tear resistance  - cold-sensitive at below 0 degrees
+ long service life  - susceptible to damage
+ small cord diameter  - high load on the rod
 + direct guiding
