In order not to miss the catch of your life, there are a variety of bite indicators that help you to recognize bites. Especially at night or if you are distracted, it is much more difficult to notice every bite. There are both mechanical and electronic bite alarms to alert you to bites. The mechanical ones are further subdivided into optical and acoustic bite alarms.

As the name suggests, optical bite indicators emit a visible movement as soon as a fish is hooked. These are, for example, simple and inexpensive glow sticks on the tip of the rod, which only move when the line is pulled. In contrast to electronic bite indicators, you still have to keep an eye on the rod with purely optical bite indicators.

Optical & electronic bite indicators – a strong duo

Many carp anglers opt for a combination of electronic bite indicators and so-called pendulum bite indicators, also known as oscillators or pendants. Now you may be wondering why you need a bite indicator in addition to the electronic bite indicator. This is because electronic indicators usually only sense the pull of the line. If the fish swims towards the rod, the fishing line becomes slack and the indicator does not trigger.

The oscillators and hangers are ideal for precisely these situations. You simply clamp them between the reel and the electronic radio. As soon as the line is slack, the integrated weights ensure that the line is pulled down and the electronic bite indicator is finally triggered. This means that these bite indicators work like a well-coordinated team and you miss even fewer bites and can enjoy your fishing time stress-free.

Of course, you can also use the oscillators individually and feel the movement yourself when the line slackens. For better visibility, most oscillators are therefore also equipped with brightly colored dots for better visibility. On some oscillators, you can change the weights to customize the ejection mechanism to your liking.
