Unhooking tools

During the sport fishing examination, we learn that a good unhooking tool is part of an angler's basic equipment. However, not all hooklifts are the same and there is no one model that is suitable for all hook sizes and target fish.

The appropriate handling of the fish must be observed. In addition, your own safety should also be a priority. After all, you are working with sturdy fishing hooks and you should always keep an eye on the razor-sharp teeth when fishing for pike.

Hooking tools for predator fishing

When spinning with various artificial lures and when deadbait fishing for predatory fish, treble hooks or large single hooks are usually used. Fishing pliers are the perfect unhooking tools here. These fishing pliers can be used to firmly grip sturdy treble hooks and thick hooks and remove them from the fish's mouth. Remove pistols offer the same effect.

For perch fishing, stable artery clips are sufficient as hooklinks. For pike-perch fishing and pike fishing, on the other hand, a pair of pliers is essential. A long pincer handle is advantageous here so that even deep-seated fishhooks can be lowered out of the fish's gullet without coming into contact with the sharp teeth.

The catfish has a powerful jaw with hard tooth plates. Sturdy and thick-wire whaler hooks are used. It is therefore important to use sturdy line pliers with which the thick hook can be gripped firmly. Special pliers have a long handle that is angled. This gives you good leverage when unscrewing the fishing hook and the hook can be removed relatively easily.

Unhooking tools for coarse fishing

Bream, roeye, bleak and other coarse fish have a comparatively small mouth. For this reason, feeder fishing and pole fishing do not use pliers and other unhooking tools are used. There are special narrow hooklinks made of plastic for this purpose, with a line channel at the upper end. The leader line can be quickly and easily inserted into the line channel and the hooklink can be guided towards the fish's mouth up to the hook. Finally, the hook only needs to be removed in the opposite direction to the hook with a quick tug.

With this hooklift, even deep-seated coarse fish hooks can be released without any problems. In addition to coarse-fishing, you can also use these unhooking tools very well for trout fishing.

Unhooking tools for sea fishing

Sturdy treble hooks and robust single hooks are used for deep-sea fishing for cod, ling, lobster, halibut and other large sea fish. The thick sea hooks can be easily removed from the fish's mouth using powerful pliers.

The hooking tool regularly comes into contact with the aggressive salt water while fishing. To ensure that the pliers do not rust and remain functional for a long time, they should be made of a saltwater-resistant material.
