Once you have decided to tie your own dropshot rig, there are a few things to consider. First, cut the desired length of fluorocarbon line. A ready-made dropshot leader measures approximately one meter. However, you can vary the length of the leader and adapt it to your needs when dropshotting. Tie a leader loop at the top end so that you can later connect the finished leader to the mainline. To do this, simply attach it to a small snap that is attached to the mainline.

Now comes the fishing hook. Here you can choose a worm hook, offset hook, yig hook or a special dropshot hook. Tie this to the leader line using a dropshot knot approximately in the middle or slightly above it. Simply clip the dropshot lead onto the line at the end of the leader. Thanks to the special eyelet, you can mount the lead variably and thus adjust the distance of the artificial lead to the bottom of the water to suit the fishing behavior. After all, predatory fish not only eat from the bottom of the water, but also often hunt a little higher up.
