Zander Rods

Zander Rods

When it comes to zander rods, the opinions of fishing enthusiasts differ greatly, so that many a friendship has been jeopardized. Some want the tip as hard as possible, others prefer it soft. What is the best zander rod depends above all on the preferred fishing method. And the zander can be fished in as many ways as there are fish in the sea. If you know where and how you want to fish for zander, you'll find the right rod here. Simply browse through our store at your leisure and discover top brand products from SHIMANO and SPORTEX.

Zander rods: Dexterity and fast action

To be successful at zander fishing, you should select the zander rod according to the fishing method.

The ideal zander rod is:

  • made from light but hard carbon
  • fast in the rod action
  • sensitive in the tip action
  • between 2.40 and 2.70 m long

A rod with a casting weight of 40 grams is sufficient for small soft lures or plugs. You can even cast and guide light lures well with it. When jigging or loafing, controlled movements are required, which hard rods perform more easily. The speed of the zander rod is important. You can forget about a wobbly, slow rod when fishing for zander.

A zander rod is relatively hard and the tip is sensitive

The rod blank or tip action should be sensitive, but not too soft. This allows you to clearly feel when the rubber hits the bottom or a fish is hooked. As the zander tends to inhale its prey and its mouth is very bony, the tips must indicate every bite. This is because the predator bites just as quickly as it spits the bait out again. A fast rod blank reliably indicates every pluck.

The only thing missing is the rest of the appropriate equipment. Normal stationary reels or baitrunner reels are ideal for zander fishing. A braided line is recommended as fishing line and a line made of fluorocarbon for the leader. You can also use a steel leader for drop-shot fishing. This way, you won't lose the bait if a pike bites instead of a zander.
