The best trout lures for every body of water

First of all, there is no one trout bait that is successful in every body of water. Depending on the habitat and condition of the water, different fishing methods and therefore different lures are suitable.

The most common trout baits according to water type:

Brook & river: spinners, insects, larvae

Trout pond & lake: twisters, spinners, spoons, plugs, maggots, mealworms, power baits, foreli, bait cocktails

Bagger lake: baitfish, rubber fish, trout dough, maggots, cocktails

Trout bait is like fish in the sea

Naturally, trout eat insects and larvae. They also like smaller fish. This is why natural baits are extremely popular as trout bait. Bee maggots, meat maggots, grasshoppers and dew worms are among the most successful live baits. Small bait fish also work well in some places, such as streams and lakes. Vegetarian options include corn and trout bait dough. Tip: Use plenty of garlic in cold waters.

Artificial trout bait has a good chance of being attacked by the fish. There is also less risk of a fish snatching the bait from the hook and not biting it. Trout wobblers imitate sickly fish and are usually more successful than spinners or spoons. The latter are particularly suitable for streams and lakes, especially when natural baits are not working. They imitate wriggling fish, mainly triggered by the rod action. Rubber trout lures also prove their worth and result in good catches.
