Fly fishing is the king discipline of fishing and unites the harmony between man and nature like no other fishing technique thanks to its smooth casting movements. Fly fishing originated in Great Britain and was once reserved for the upper echelons of society. Probably the most aesthetic way of catching a fish requires a lot of practice and skill and is based on the simple principle of presenting the fish with an imitation fly as a lure. Fly fishing is primarily aimed at predatory fish such as trout and salmon and requires a reliable fly rod in addition to an attractive fly rod.
Unlike spinning rods, fly rods have a so-called parabolic action, which means that the entire rod can bend over its length. This is necessary so that you can achieve casting distance at all with the light fly lines. In fly fishing, the 2.40 to 2.70 meter long fishing rod is divided into so-called line classes.
Fly rods are also available in two versions: as one-handed and two-handed rods. One-handed fly rods are the most common. Two-handed fly rods are used for large, hard-fighting fish such as Atlantic saithe.
The structure of fly rods is always divided into three main components: the reel seat, the grip and the blank. The reel seat is often made of wood, aluminum or carbon and is used to hold the fly reel. The handle is made of cork or foam rubber. The third component is the blank, also known as the blank, to which the rod rings are attached.
Always match the fly reel to the other components. Classification is based on the international standard ASA (formerly AFTMA), which specifies which components fit together. For example, a class 6 reel is assigned to a class 6 rod.
Fly fishing lines differ from conventional lines due to their high weight. Depending on the line type, the lines have different casting properties and floating properties. We differentiate between floating lines (floating) and sinking lines (sinking), as well as intermediate levels.
