Fly Reels

Items 1 - 10 of 23

In addition to a suitable fly rod and a fly that promises to catch fish, the fly reel is the most important part of fly fishing equipment. In addition to the incomparable, active experience in nature, the focus is on a smooth fishing experience with an effortless catch. Your equipment should be easy to use and at the same time be able to hold its own in a duel with trout and salmon. So that you can finally land the bitten fish in your net, you need a fly reel that is perfectly adapted to your needs. Then go fly fishing!

Fly reel – performance & quality

One of the most important components of a fly reel is the brake system, which must be able to cope with high demands. The drag system is the only adaptable part of the fly reel, consisting of a knob that controls the spool dynamics. In addition, the speed and the amount of unwinding line can be adjusted.

When choosing the brake, you have the option between a disc brake and a ratchet brake. The disc brake is generally stronger and is suitable for a wide range of applications, from fishing for trout to fishing for salmon and pike. Fly reels with ratchet drags are generally designed for lighter line classes.

Your fly reel should not only match your fly rod, but also the line. If you want to fish with a 5 or 6 weight line, your reel should also be designed for this.

In general, we distinguish between different line types:

  • Shooting Taper – for long casts in floating and sinking versions
  • Double Taper – for fishing at short distances
  • Level Taper – same line diameter
  • Triangle Taper – the line diameter increases evenly, very good for medium distance
  • Weight Forward – club line, the line thickens towards the front
