Jerk fishing is similar to spin fishing in the sense that contact with the bait is very important for both. This is why braided line is also used.

However, you do not retrieve the line in the same way. A smooth retrieve tends to cause disappointing running behavior with jerkbaits, which does not attract predatory fish to bite. They use the jerkbait rod much more to breathe life into the artificial bait through jerks and strokes or sweeping twisting movements of the hooks. That's why the jerkbait rods are used in combination with multi reels, otherwise you could damage a spinning reel when jigging.

Properties of a good jerkbait rod
