The feeder reel plays a major role here, as it should have good power transmission in order to pull the sometimes heavy feed basket ashore with little effort. Hunting peaceful fish with a feeder reel

In addition to good power transmission, you should also make sure that your new feeder reel has a sensitive drag. Whether front or rear brake is up to your own preference. However, front brakes have established themselves among professionals, as they usually have a slightly better power transmission. Another important point is the gear ratio, which you should select in the range 4:1 to 6:1. The lower the gear ratio, the more sensitively the hooked fish is landed. This can prevent one or two slips, especially with fish with soft mouths.

Depending on the water and intended fishing distance, you should think carefully about the line capacity of your feeder reel. 150 meters of 0.26 millimetre line should serve as a guideline.

Your feeder reel should also have a line clip attached to the end of the spool head. This is used to clip the line so that you can cast to the same spot again and again. An aluminum line clip is much more stable than a plastic clip.
