Are you passionate about carp fishing and do you specialize in it? Then boilies should not be missing from your fishing box! Boilies were first produced by a British man in the 1960s. He formed small balls of dough and added particularly important nutrients for carp to them. He then boiled the boilies hard. Hence the name, as "to boil" means „to cook“ in German.
The consistency is crucial for catching carp and minimizing by-catch. Most roach, rudd or other white fish are not able to consume the hard outer layer. In addition, these feeds are usually too large for these fish. Only tench and bream will occasionally go for a boilie if it smells and tastes irresistible.
When selecting boilies, always consider the time of year in which you are using them. For example, the boilie should not contain too much fishmeal in the cold winter. The fish's metabolism is then greatly slowed down and the fish is very quickly saturated and will not increase in size even with further cooling. In addition, many fragrances and flavors are not released at low temperatures and do not attract the fish as effectively.
The water quality also plays a role. Small peaceful fish do not respond to very colourful and easily recognizable baits in clear water, as these also attract predatory fish due to their brightness and the peaceful fish therefore do not feel safe. So use dark, unobtrusive boilies in clear water and colorful and bright boilies in murky water
There are some hooks that are specially designed for boilies, but these are not so widespread. This is why boilies are usually attached as a hair mount next to the hook. To do this, drill a hole through the boilie with a boilie needle and pull the loop of the secondary hair through it. Attach a stopper at the end and your rig is ready to go carp hunting.
