The "S" stands for extra "Smooth". And if you let these lines glide through your fingers, you will hardly be able to feel any difference to a monofilament in terms of surface smoothness. This is particularly true of the "silver-grey". The "yellow-green" is made from a modified fiber that is significantly more abrasion-resistant than the "silver-grey" and therefore feels a little stiffer. In addition, the "yellow-green" has further reserves of load-bearing capacity, so that the load-bearing capacities specified here are often achieved even in well-tied knots. However, in our opinion, it is not so much the increase in load capacity that is important in these areas, but rather the overall characteristics. Have a look at and try both lines and decide for yourself - it is certainly a matter of personal taste - but also a question of the area of application. If higher abrasion resistance and/or best visibility (especially at dusk) are required, the "yellow-green" should be used! Both lines are "pure braided" without a coating, which is known to roughen or rub off after a short time and make the lines unusable. This smoothness is achieved by using extremely fine ULTRA-Peak UHMWPE fibers in combination with a braiding process in which the individual fibers are divided and braided into a considerably larger number of strands than was previously possible. This "multi-strand process" also increases the braiding angles. The fibers are bent slightly less than is the case with type R and type E - with the same roundness, compactness and inner strength. This results in slightly higher tensile strengths for type S. And of course it is also possible to produce the spliced loop with this even finer braiding, which allows the high tensile strengths to be fully exploited. Unfortunately, the very fine UHMWPE fibers and the braiding process with very many strands also come at a high price. Nevertheless, this type S will certainly be used when only the very best material is good enough.
