In the breathtaking nature of Norway or Iceland, or in the local North Sea or Baltic Sea, you stand on board a boat and cast your line. You're hoping for a big cod or saithe. With the tried and tested pilker method, you have the best chance of catching a big fish. Pilk fishing uses an artificial lure, which is usually made of shiny, saltwater-resistant metal. It imitates a natural fish shape and when it sinks it tricks the target fish into thinking it is easy prey. Discover a huge selection of pirks for all kinds of target fish and waters at tackle-deals.eu.

Pilkers are amazing lures with a high bite rate

A treble hook is attached to the head end of the pirk. The lures are available in many different sizes and weights, which are matched to the respective water depth and the target fish. In the Baltic Sea, the water is less deep and lighter pirks are advisable than in the depths of the North Atlantic.

The correct cod pirk weights for the sea depths:

  • Baltic Sea: up to 100g
  • North Sea: at least 300g
  • Southern Norway: up to 300g
  • Central Norway: up to 500g
  • Northern Norway: up to 600g
  • Iceland: over 500g

Almost all marine predatory fish can be caught with a pirk

In strong currents or wind drift, heavier lures are generally advantageous as they sink to the bottom more easily. With the pilk method, the angler pulls the lure back up with the pilk rod after the first ground contact, only to let it drift down or sink again. Depending on the fish species, the animals prefer different movements and colors of the pirk. While the lure sinks down and imitates a weakening fish, most fish will bite. As a rule, the fish, like cod, are close to the bottom. They are also attracted by the sound and the pressure wave that the pirk creates when it hits the seabed.
