Vertical Rods

Items 1 - 6 of 6

Vertical fishing is a discipline that has similarities to fishing techniques such as boat, drop-shot, pilk or jig fishing. However, you need the right vertical rod to perfect this technique. In principle, you usually fish from a boat or belly boat, so that bait, fishing line and fishing rod are arranged vertically one below the other. They are also used from the jetty or for ice fishing.

The most commonly used lures are zockers, which resemble pirks but are usually much smaller. As you also lower these lures to the bottom, fishing with vertical rods is even more similar to pilking, but is also used more frequently in lakes. The rod is guided along the bottom and attracts the target fish all the better if it stirs up dirt from time to time.

Properties of a good vertical rod

As high casting distances are not necessary, vertical rods are usually relatively short with lengths of 1.80 m to a maximum of 3 m. This allows you to achieve much better handling with a vertical rod on the boat, where space is at a premium. As with spinning rods, it is also important that the rod has a low weight so that you are not exhausted after a short time.

In addition, the blank of the vertical rod must also have a high stiffness and tip action to ensure excellent contact with the fish. This also makes it easier to perceive bites. Bait contact is not guaranteed if the casting weight is too low and the bait is too heavy. Then the tip will sag so much without the fish that an accurate feel is lost.
