Trout Rods

Trout Rods

When the weather is fine and the water is clear, experienced anglers will immediately recognize the trout by their silvery shimmer. If you not only want to observe them, but also catch them, you need the right trout rod. These rods are specially designed for trout as a target fish and you should therefore only specialize in them if you are fishing in trout-rich waters.

Lengths and handles of trout rods

Trout rods are available in numerous different sizes. You should always base your choice on your fishing location. For lake fishing or sea trout hunting, we recommend trout rods with a length of 2.70 m to 4 m in order to achieve the required casting distances and avoid bank vegetation.

Shorter trout rods with a length of around 2 m are much more suitable for stream fishing, as high casting distances are not necessary. In addition, the handling of the trout rod is much more important in order to manoeuvre the bait precisely in the flowing water.

The handle length also plays a role in the handling of the rod. With a short handle, you achieve better mobility and maneuverability in overgrown waters. With a longer handle, however, you also have greater leverage when landing a large fish and do not have to exert a huge amount of force. In both cases, the handle and trout rod must be well matched so that the center of balance is as close to the reel as possible.

Trout rods*Casting weights and rod action

The casting weight and rod action of trout rods is selected according to the location, the body and the target fish size. You should therefore use lower casting weights for fishing in rivers and streams. However, if you are fishing with plugs, spoons and spinners of a certain weight, the rod must also be designed for this weight. As you can also fish for trout with plugs, a rod with 10 – 30 g is universally suitable for a wide variety of fish and locations.

In terms of action, a tip action is considered the standard for trout rods in order to offer precise fishing. In addition, you feel the jolt much better when biting than with a rod with a parabolic action. However, the semi-parabolic action is necessary for cheaper models to catch large trout, as a rod that is too stiff can even break with strong fish.
