If you have already planned your next trip to Norway, you will of course still need the right equipment. Pilk and boat rods are the ideal equipment for catching the coveted fish when sea fishing. Both are almost exclusively used from a boat, but you can also use pilk rods on the shore if the water is deep enough or the target fish are on the shore.

Fishing techniques with pilk & boat rods

Pilk rods are used for pilking from a boat. This means that you do not actually cast the artificial bait, but lower it. A special lure for this is the pirk. This sinks to the seabed. You then pull it up a little and lower it again. It creates waves when it hits the bottom and shimmers with its tumbling movements. Both effectively attract the large predatory fish in the sea.

You can also use boat rods for pilking, but you can also use them to troll from a boat. To do this, pull a fishing rig equipped with trolling accessories behind you. Several fishing rods are usually set up at once to increase the chances of catching fish.

Properties of pilk & boat rods

Since pilk and boat rods are mainly used in the sea, they must be saltwater-proof and robust enough to withstand all weather conditions. You should also check whether the rods are strong enough not to break even with heavy loads. This is necessary as pilkers can weigh over 800 g. The resulting fish are also so heavy that unstable pilk and boat rods simply break under the load.
